Job Description
The Field Mechanic will travel to various construction sites as needed to tend to the maintenance and repair of all types of construction equipment to ensure they operate safely and at optimum efficiency. S/he is will use either electric or oxygen-acetylene welding methods to repair machinery and equipment used at asphalt plants, road construction machinery, hauling trucks etc. Types of heavy equipment include but are not limited to, earth moving equipment, paving equipment, hauling trucks, and diesel engine vehicles of all types.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Travel to construction sites to maintain, repair, and address the functionality of various machinery and equipment.
• Repair, modify, design, lay out, or fabricate (with or without blueprints) a variety of metal work including construction vehicles and equipment.
• Operate and inspect machines and heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
• Diagnose and repair minor mechanical defects in gas and diesel-powered engines, including graders, loaders, rollers, dozers, sweepers, tractors, and other heavy equipment.
• Understand and follow safety procedures.
• Perform projects and other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred. Vocational school or other welding training preferred.
- 3 years of related experience required.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, and repair a variety of metal work.
- Knowledge of tools and methods of the welding trade including brazing, soldering, electrical, gas, and arc welding.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and technical manuals.
- Ability to perform minor repair and maintenance on a variety of diesel-powered heavy equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions; function effectively as part of a team; ability to work under pressure; communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, take initiative, and problem solve while maintaining attention to detail.
